Growing up on a small farm in Jacksonville, Oregon, Mercedes Andazola Scheu was put in the saddle at the age of 2, and hasn't stopped riding since. Horses, competitions, and working as a dressage student in the summers composed the backbone of her youth, which manifests itself in her natural ability, technique, and a long list of accomplishments today.

 

 

 Mercedes has competed in the sport of dressage for a total of 19 years with multiple high point awards from training through FEI, and has also earned both her bronze, silver and gold  USDF medals.  She has also brought her current mount (H. Prince William whom she obtained as a 3 year-old ) up through Grand Prix level in Dressage at an astonishing pace,  showing him at Grand Prix in the 2017 Oregon State Championships. 2019 Regionals Devonwood Dressage GAIG/USDF Region 6 Championships.  Mercedes also has studied the German language for seven years with a minor in German Language studies from the University of Portland where she also studied marketing for three years.

 

 

As a teenager, Mercedes spent her summers as a working student for several professionals including Ultimate Piaffe Farm, Jennifer Schrader of Summervale farm, and Deborah Hausman of Quailhurst Estate. In recent years, she has partnered with trainers such as Darci Bayney and Kelly Smith, incorporating dressage into their hunter/jumper programs. Mercedes currently is a resident dressage trainer at High Valley Stables in Newberg, OR, and provides training and lessons, and clinics to many other independent clients in and around the SW Portland area.

In addition to her extensive proficiency in dressage, Mercedes has a solid working knowledge of a diverse spectrum of horse types, including working passion for starting green horses, ex-race horses, and horses in rehabilitation from injury, and horse and riders of any discipline and skill level.  Be it western, English, or simply pleasure and trail she enjoys passing tools along to those looking to improve and/ or problem solve.  She has worked with horses of a wide variety of disciplines and skill levels as well as horses trained to Grand Prix level dressage. She also spends her time attending clinics and has worked with trainers Kathy and Sara Everman, Jeremy Steinberg, Jeff A. Moore., Jessica Wisdom, Conrad Schumacher, Kathy Casey, Stephan Birchall, and David Blake, Lisa Wilcox Clinic 2021 ,   2021 ODS 50th Anniversary symposium  with Sabine Schut-Kery,  2022 Cindy Ishoy Clinic  .
